In order to properly safeguard all of your employees — and meet your legal workplace health and safety obligations — it\u2019s imperative to identify whether or not your organisation requires a\u00a0lone worker app<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To understand your organisation\u2019s lone worker safety requirements<\/a>, you must examine:<\/p>\n

  1. Your local government\u2019s official definitions for lone, isolated and remote workers;<\/li>\n
  2. The potential hazards and risks your lone workers will encounter;<\/li>\n
  3. Your lone workers\u2019 feedback, concerns, and feelings regarding working alone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    What is a lone worker?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    If you are considering deploying a lone worker safety solution, firstly you must understand what a lone worker is, what their job entails, and the conditions in which they work.<\/p>\n

    Defining a lone worker is not as simple and straightforward as a person who works alone.<\/p>\n

    The Australian Government\u2019s\u00a0Comcare Guide to Remote or Isolated Work<\/a>\u00a0defines lone workers as those who \u201cwork by themselves and\/or work in the community with only limited support arrangements, which therefore expose them to risk by being isolated from the usual back-up support. This is the case whether they regularly work alone or are only occasionally alone and do not have access to immediate support from managers or other colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n

    What is isolated or remote work?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    Comcare\u2019s Guide to Remote or Isolated Work<\/a>\u00a0also details that isolated work can \u201cinvolve work activities undertaken in an isolated area, on or off site, either during or outside normal working hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Meanwhile, remote work can involve \u201cactivities undertaken at a location removed from an office environment where there are few people and where communications and travel are difficult.\u201d Remote work can include land and sea activities, within the country or overseas.<\/p>\n
